The Emerald Lake

 

The Emerald Lake and its tented lodge has everything, including unspoiled Africa and the quiet magic of yester year in the lakes of the Great Rift Valley. The camp is situated in the tree-lined slopes of the cauldron of an extinct volcano. The center of the volcano forms the emerald green soda lake. The only interruption to your tranquility is the timeless movement of animals and birds.

This small camp with just eleven tents is hidden in the tree line and reflects the atmosphere that has existed in the area for centuries. Although the individual tents have all the luxury of a modern hotel with en suite facilities, you wake in the morning to look over the flamingo lined lake to the sound of the colobus monkeys. Lying in your four-poster bed you can watch the lake unfold as the early morning mist is lifted by the tropical sun. The water changes from green to blue and back again with the movement of the sun.


You can stroll around the circumference of the lake before breakfast or just hang out in a hammock; there is so much to do in this area.

Your days can be filled in the sun, bird watching or walking in the surrounding park with a guide or can be spent just lazing. For those with enthusiasm and energy this makes an excellent base camp for the "big hike". Other activities include boat rides on the local fresh water lakes, visits to a local island where you can walk with the wild non- predatory animals and have a picnic.

Don't miss booking a sundowner at cauldron ridge or a candlelit dinner on the jetty. The food at the camp is all home cooking and any special dietary requirements should be advise when booking.
